A man was rescued from the sea by members of the public after getting in to difficulty off Gorleston this morning.

The coastguard was alerted by a member of staff at the Pier Hotel at just after 9am and the Gorleston inshore lifeboat was called out.

By the time it arrived at the scene, the crew found the man was on the beach being treated by paramedics.

Norfolk police also attended and a spokesman said the man, believed to be in his 60s, was taken to the James Paget University Hospital for treatment, although he did not require resuscitation at the scene.
