OVERWHELMING support was given to a special event in Lowestoft.

“This event is special and you just can't let it go and there must be another.”

This was just one of the sentiments heard repeatedly from those who attended the Eastern Lights Get Together at Royal Green yesterday (Sunday, July 26).

Eastern Lights committee chairman Paul Howard said that he was overwhelmed by the large number of bikes, estimated at between 1200 to 1400, that had arrived at Lowestoft from all over the area to show their support for Eastern Lights.

He praised their determination not to let the event end and offered a glimmer of hope that the event may continue. He said that Suffolk Police wanted a meeting with the organising committee to discuss options for the future of the event.

The committee would also be seeking clarification about what was now legally necessary to run a cavalcade and also the cost of any licence and the cost of policing such an event.

Paul sent his sincere and heartfelt thanks to all the bikers who had ridden to Lowestoft, for their continued support - not forgetting the hardworking team of volunteers and collectors who ensured that the organisation of the Get Together went off smoothly.

Finally, he gave thanks to the vast majority of riders who had offered to donate their cavalcade payment to the James Paget University Hospital A&E Department.

The total sum donated will be announced in early September.
