A new community initiative is set to launch next month, with the aim of bringing people together to have a chat over a free cuppa.

Given the technological advances and today's fast paced society, the art of face-to-face conversation is perhaps being forgotten as texts, messages and social media take over.

While youngsters are quick to grasp these modern forms of communication, the older generation could perhaps be left behind. But now, Lowestoft-based charitable organisation, Access Community Trust, is keen to change all that and bring all ages together – as they aim to bring back that unique form of talking to each other.

They are launching a community initiative at Sams Marram Green in Kessingland called 'Meet Up Mondays' as of next Monday, August 6. Supporting #MeetUpMonday, via their social enterprise café Sams at Marram Green residential complex in Kessingland, the aim of the new initiative is to encourage existing groups in Kessingland, who want to meet up and chat over a free cup of tea or coffee, to come together and for those that may feel socially isolated to become included in an existing group or become part of a new group.

The concept is to have as many people as possible all finding time to catch up with each other on a Monday morning.

Dave Eagle, business support officer at Access Community Trust, said: 'Back in June, we held our very first 'The Big Lunch' which was a huge success! #MeetupMonday seemed a natural progression from that event and we've agreement from Kessingland Primary Academy to come along and be part of the session six times a year.

'We're looking forward to welcoming them back for #MeetupMonday on September 24.'

Access Community Trust's customer and commercial projects manager, Antony Parke, said: 'In less than 12 months, and thanks to the support of the community and the Parish and District Council, we've already established a very successful community café which has become a beating heart in Kessingland.

'Now we want to welcome as many groups as we can to come and use Sams as a venue on a Monday morning and have a free cuppa on us.'

The initiative

The Meet Up Monday sessions will run each and every Monday, from August 6, between 9.30am and 11.30am.

The sesssions are free to attend and also includes a free cup of tea or coffee.

Access Community Trust's customer and commercial projects manager, Antony Parke, added: 'As part of our #meetupmonday plans we're also welcoming people to come along, even if they are not part of an established group, to find out what groups exist or just to have a chat with someone new.

'If nothing else, people are welcome to come along for a free cup of tea!'
