A SIGNIFICANT meeting between key figureheads is set to discuss future works and traffic implications in Lowestoft.

The Journal can today reveal that a meeting between Waveney District Council and Suffolk County Council on highways issues is set to be held later this month.

It is to take place on November 25 and will be held at 10.30am in the Conference Hall of at the Orbis Energy Centre, in Lowestoft

Speaking ahead of the meeting - which will be held in public - a council spokesman revealed: “The purpose of the meeting would be to undertake a joint review on a series of initiatives including:

What processes are in place for planning and managing road works on the trunk road network in Suffolk; and

How, given the example of the recent works on the A12 bascule bridge, are the planned works of trunk and county highway authorities co-ordinated to minimise disruption?

The talks come a week after The Journal revealed that a £2.3m Highways Agency scheme to refurbish the bridge would finish next month - nearly a year after the maintenance work was due to be completed.

The council spokesman said: “It will be a meeting held in public so those who wish to attend and witness proceedings can do so.”
