FURTHER to the report “Mother's dog mess campaign” (January 16, 2009) I fully support the existing law that dog owners should be responsible for clearing up after their dogs.

FURTHER to the report “Mother's dog mess campaign” (January 16, 2009) I fully support the existing law that dog owners should be responsible for clearing up after their dogs.

Waveney District Council also used to support responsible dog owners by making available for sale bio-degradable bags for dog owners to buy and use to collect and dispose of dog excreta.

When I recently tried to buy a further stock of these bags from Waveney District Council I was told that they were no longer available and that a policy decision had been made not to continue to stock them.

In your report you quote a WDC spokesman as saying “if we receive any reports of dog fouling, we immediately pass the details to our street cleansing team”.

I would have thought that encouragement to dog owners to clear up the mess themselves by making these bags easily available would be more cost-effective.
