Moonlight Walk's a real charity dazzler

PUBLISHED: 09:49 29 October 2010

THERE were witches, schoolgirls, and a few scary-looking types too. But the oddly attired cast of characters that gathered in the dark on Lowestoft seafront had only good intentions - as they prepared to stride out for charity.

There was a colourful atmosphere on Kirkley Cliff last Friday evening as more than 200 people ignored the drab weather to take part in this year’s Lowestoft’s Moonlight Walk.

Organisers Janet Ellis and Zoiyar Cole had feared that only a few people would take part in the event, which raises money for the Palliative Care East appeal.

But they were delighted by the turn-out, with many of the walkers getting in a party mood by donning fancy dress.

“It was not a brilliant night weatherwise and we thought that only a few people would take part, said Janet. “However, when we got to the start point at the Hotel Victoria there was a wonderful atmosphere as 200 people were there including many in fancy dress.”

Both Janet and Zoiyar thanked everyone who took part and made the event such a success.

“Only the moon was missing as it was hiding behind the clouds,” said Janet.

“We must say a special thank you to Jenny Watson and her team from the Palliative Care East Appeal.

“Also our grateful thanks to all the staff at The Victoria for allowing us to use the function room and supplying all the bacon butties and refreshments,” she added.

The intrepid walkers stepped out along Lowestoft seafront to walk to the South Pier dressed in a variety of costumes.

Sponsorship money is still being collected and an announcement of the final amount collected will be made in The Journal.

l Anyone wanting to pay in their sponsorship money can contact Zoiyar or Janet on 01502 513573 or 01502 562843. It is hoped that all money will be paid in by November 15.
