Passengers from Norwich will have more choice of destinations next year as airport bosses hint at eight new routes.

Elliott Summers, managing director of Norwich International Airport, has confirmed they are in advanced negotiations or have already completed deals, with airlines and tour operators regarding new routes to eight different destinations.

These destinations include Bulgaria, as announced recently, mainland Spain and the Canaries.

There will also be flights to Turkey with Thomson, a 'luxury destination further afield' and a new destination which will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Mr Summers said: 'We have been working hard to improve relationships with airlines and are in advanced negotiations, or have already completed deals, with airlines and tour operators regarding new routes to eight different destinations. Bulgaria has already been announced and within the next few weeks we will confirm another new destination.

'Other new routes we are working on include mainland Spain, the Canaries and another luxury destination further afield. These routes combined with an extra 30 flights to Turkey in 2010 clearly demonstrate that the airport is listening to its customers and is proactive in its approach to current trading conditions.'

The flights to Spain, the Canaries and the further afield destination, which is yet to be revealed, are likely to be available from October 2010. The other flights are set to be launched in April.

The news will come as a boost to travellers to Spain after Flybe axed flights to Alicante and Malaga in 2007. Last year, Spanish airline LTE launched flights to Palma, Alicante and Barcelona but these were later permanently suspended.

Earlier this year, Norwich Airport was rated one of the best in the country after outperforming regional rival Stansted in the consumer publication Which? Holiday.

The publication asked more than 9,000 travellers to rate their experiences at 38 terminals at 30 UK airports in the past 12 months. Norwich came joint sixth with an overall approval rating of 68pc, 26 places higher than Stansted which came seventh from bottom with 45pc.
