MINI enthusiasts have helped keep the Palliative Care East appeal's wheels in motion by raising �500 in aid of a new palliative care centre in the grounds of the James Paget University Hospital.

MINI enthusiasts have helped keep the Palliative Care East appeal's wheels in motion by raising �500 in aid of a new palliative care centre in the grounds of the James Paget University Hospital.

The Norfolk Mini Owners Club was inspired by regular reports about the appeal in the Mercury to raise the sum over the last year.

The club is pictured presenting a cheque for �500 to Palliative Care East co-ordinator Jenny Watson.

The appeal was one of three charities to receive money from the club. Further donations of �500 and �1,500 were given to the Riding for the Disabled and East Anglian Air Ambulance charities respectively.

Based in Norwich, the club has members from all over Norfolk who attend social events and participate in activities ranging from bowling to paintballing.

Next Friday, there will be an Elizabethan Music evening in aid fo the appeal, with dancing and entertainment provided by the Minstrels Gallery.

Tickets for the event, starting at 7.30pm, cost �6 including a cheese, pate and fruit buffet and are available from the Palliative Care East office by phoning 01493 453348 or the Priory Centre near St Nicholas Church in Great Yarmouth.

From August 28-30 a St Benet's Minister Flower Festival in St Mary's Road, Beccles. Entry is free and there will be refreshments. Donations are welcome.

On September 5, an East Point Charity Cycle Ride with a choice of five, 10 and 20 miles starting from the Morrisons superstore in Pakefield.
