MOTIVATED by a poignant goal, an inspiring family of seven will head for Wales this weekend determined to raise funds for a worthy cause.

Sisters Sally and Tina Barnes, their mum Brenda Barnes and their four children will walk up Snowdon to raise money for other heroes - in memory of their father, and their 'hero,' Michael Barnes who was known as Rebel.

Mr Barnes bravely fought, but sadly lost his battle with cancer. And to honour him, the three adults and four children - Jade, 13, Owen, 12, Kerryn, 11, and Becky, 11 - will raise funds for Help for Heroes.

'We will be doing this walk as the first of many fundraising events, while visiting Wales for the first time,' Sally Barnes told The Journal.

Walking the ranger route at Snowdon on Monday, the Barnes have been 'going on long walks' to prepare themselves for the task ahead.

'Dad was our hero, so in memory of him we will be going up Snowdon to raise monies for Help for Heroes,' Mrs Barnes said.

'We are all really looking forward to it and hopefully people can pledge their support in sponsoring us,' she added.
