THE funeral service took place at Gorleston Crematorium on Tuesday, April 22, for Dorothy Joan Spillings, who died on April 13 at James Paget University Hospital, aged 90.

THE funeral service took place at Gorleston Crematorium on Tuesday, April 22, for Dorothy Joan Spillings, who died on April 13 at James Paget University Hospital, aged 90. The Rev Robert Soanes officiated.

Mourners were, Trevor Garrod (son), Dennis Read, Leonard and Evelyn Read, Hazel Pinkney, Graham Pinkney, Kevin and Sandra Read, Marion and Graham Glover, Jill and George Kirby, Ian and Beverley Read, Maureen and Richard Rix, John Waddell, June Rope and George Burgess.

The late Mrs Spillings was well known in local and county bowls circles, having represented Suffolk many times and also served as County President for both the indoor and outdoor game. Many mourners also attended from the world of bowls, including Margaret Ashford-Hull, Joan Carter, Joy Gray, Paula Gooch, Basil and Grace Hawes, Jessie Knights, Vera Lawrence and Bob Whittle, Betty Pooley, Deanna Saunders, Rowena Slawinski, Phyl Smith, Ted and Betty Thwaites, June Turrell, John Walford and June White. Also represented were Joyce Burgess, Roy Hull and Margaret Lane.

Unable to attend were: Mary Read, Marjorie Page, Janet Farrow, Dorothy Lochmuller and Diana and Terry Barnard.

The family would like to thank the many people from far and near who sent messages of sympathy, Rev Soanes for his sympathetic conduct of the service and the staff of Anglia Co-Operative Funerals Service.
