I AGREE totally with Rachel Moore (September 25) that we do not need a town centre heaving with discount stores. However, people do want cheaper items, especially if they have children.

However, people do want cheaper items, especially if they have children.
I think Lowestoft has a good balance of discount-type stores offering good value and quality. If we want to maintain the right image of the town and attract quality retailers then the town needs to look at the astronomical rents of some of the vacant properties.
I run a quality craft shop and would dearly love to move into the town centre but high rent and rates prevent me from doing so.
If Lowestoft wants to attract shops offering value and a variety of goods it needs to do something to attract these businesses, whether they be high street chains, or smaller shops, into the town.
The people of Lowestoft deserve a good shopping centre with affordable parking, quality shops and a balance of goods offered. And please, no more coffee shops!
