AN international superstar left Norwich fans fuming last night after arriving at his eagerly awaited gig at 2am and leaving after playing just one song.

American R&B star Ne-Yo, who will be playing at London's O2 Arena next week and had been booked through Powerhouse Promotions to play at Mercy Nightclub yesterday, disappointed scores of fans with his short performance.

A statement on the club's website says: “Mercy Nightclub would like to apologise to all persons that attended the Ne-Yo event on July 12.

“Ne-Yo was booked through an outside promoter and committed to a midnight performance of five tracks (minimum) and a meet and greet for VIP customers.

“For reasons beyond our control, the artist arrived on stage at 2am, performed one song, and left without reason or notice.

“Full refunds will be offered within 28 days. Further details will be announced as soon as possible.”

No one at Powerhouse Promotions was available for comment.

Trevor Preece, 57, of Brundall, who went to the gig with his partner Tina Watts, 48, said: “It was very unprofessional. He sang Closer, but the sound quality was terrible, and then he was about 20 seconds into the next song when one of his men said to stop the music and sort it out.

“Then he stormed off stage and disappeared. We paid £45 each for VIP tickets and they said we would possibly get to talk to him, but £45 for a one-and-a-half minute performance is quite expensive.”
