PLANS to upgrade the security system at Blundeston Prison with new CCTV cameras could soon be approved.
An application lodged by Jacobs Engineering UK has been submitted to Waveney District Council.
The plan incorporating CCTV cameras and columns (Perimeter Intruder Detection System) involves the removal of 15 fence-mounted cameras and replacing them with 17 pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) CCTV security cameras situated on 12m high columns and 'six cameras mounted on existing walls or fences on the eastern and northern boundaries of the prison. The CCTV installation is an upgrade of the existing system within or surrounding the prison site.
The application states: 'The proposed development will integrate with the existing structures, masts and lighting columns at the prison and will not significantly impact on the character of surrounding landscape.'
The proposal does not include lighting and is unlikely to have a significant impact in views from local properties,' adds the application.
