A new group has been launched to help people in the town lead healthier and more active lifestyles.
FitClub aims to get residents taking a small step to make a big difference in their lives.
The club runs at Woods Loke Primary School, on Butley Drive, every Wednesday evening from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. It costs £2 per session and currently averages between 15 and 25 participants.
The group also aims to motivate people and allow then to give exercising a try in a fun way, without necessarily having to attend the gym to lose weight.
The sessions have been running for a number of weeks, and will be continuing over the Christmas period and into the New Year.
Richard Chilvers, the club’s co-ordinator, helps to run the sessions alongside his wife.
He described how the exercises are tailored to the individual, and is encouraging more people to attend the club – which focuses on interval training techniques alongside uplifting and inspiring music.
“Our aim is to get people fit and healthy in a relaxed atmosphere”, Mr Chilvers said.
“The club helps people with their goals and to lose weight. We are giving people somewhere to go and providing some motivational tips. “Anything that can get people active is important, and we are hoping that the fun and light hearted sessions can give people a kick start to improve their lives.”
All profits that are made by the club, are donated to local good causes, organisations and charities with Waveney Youth FC and the Haven Project – a refuge for mothers and children who have to leave their homes – chosen as the first two recipients.
“We recently presented a cheque for £100 at the Waveney FC charity evening,” Mr Chilvers added.
“We are not doing this to make money and we are not making huge amounts, but we want to do something that is beneficial.
“We can fit about 40 people in the hall and when it gets a bit warmer again, we can go out and use the field,” he added.
“It would be great if some more people came along to this great project.”
