A COUNCIL has taken delivery of seven new refuse freighters, fitted with the latest green technologies.
Waveney District Council is determined to help Suffolk achieve its ambition of becoming the greenest county and insisted that any new vehicles should be fitted with the latest emissions-reducing technology to limit their impact on the environment.
They will be used on the normal domestic rounds and also to collect trade waste for commercial customers.
Already, over the six weeks since they arrived, a 20pc saving on fuel usage has been seen.
Ken Sale, portfolio holder for the environment said: 'We are committed to helping make Suffolk the greenest county and have carefully considered the environmental impact of essential services such as waste collection. It is crucial that vehicles supporting important 'green' schemes such as recycling also do their bit and this will be a key aim of the ongoing fleet improvement programme.'
Waveney Norse purchased the freighters from Dennis Eagle at a reduced price, as part of the capital expenditure for council services.
