A special meeting was held in Southwold to elect the town's new mayor.

Councillor Melanie Tucker, 65, was nominated at the meeting last night and unanimously voted in.

She takes over from retiring mayor Ann Betts, 73, who was made deputy mayor.

Ms Tucker said she was ‘honoured’ by the appointment and praised the town’s ‘strong sense of community’.
