Nine-year-old boy in dramatic sea rescue

A BOY has been dramatically rescued after falling into the sea.Yarmouth Coastguard received a 999 call from a caller at the Pier Hotel in Gorleston, near Great Yarmouth, at 7.

A BOY has been dramatically rescued after falling into the sea.

Yarmouth Coastguard received a 999 call from a caller at the Pier Hotel in Gorleston, near Great Yarmouth, at 7.50pm last night (Wednesday).

The caller reported that she could see four people hanging onto the pier in the sea and believed they were in trouble.

The Gorleston Coastguard rescue team was called out as well as the police and ambulance service. A rescue helicopter was also alerted.

On arrival crews found a nine-year-old boy in trouble and two adults entered the water to save him.

The ambulance service personnel took the boy and his mother to hospital for the boy to be further assessed.

Jason Jones, watch manager, Yarmouth Coastguard, said: 'The adults involved in this incident could well have saved this boy's life.

'The sea at any time of the year can pose inherent dangers and should always be treated with respect.

'We would always recommend that swimming is undertaken at a lifeguarded beach whilst they are on duty.

'The summer school holiday break is nearly upon us, and we would like to remind parents and children to take care whilst at the seaside.'
