IT'S been another busy week for the Waveney's cleansing team as they deal with fly-tipping and littering across town in an effort to keep Lowestoft tidy.

Mike Daniels, cleansing manager at the council said he had received 13 reports of dumped rubbish in the last seven days.

'One report was from an unfortunate Florence Road resident who discovered that somebody had dumped a used gas bottle in their front garden,' he said.

'We have been clearing lots of fly-tipping from Great Eastern Linear Way this week. In addition, we have removed televisions from the rear access at Kent Road, Kirkley Ham, Jacobs Street and Dukes Head Street.

Crews have also collected furniture from Thurston Road, Jacobs Street, Leisure Way, Queens Road and Delius Close, as well as collected bags from Marine Parade, Albany Road and Lovewell Road and a barbecue that had been dumped at Camps Heath.

Mr Daniels added: 'We are still receiving a number of reports of dog fouling in Lowestoft. Crews have been sent to clean down areas in Lakeland Drive, Hervey Street, Lawson Road, Ontario Road, Trafalgar Street and Bevan Street West.'

He said after publicising the new cigarette bins last week he was disappointed to find that tree bases along London Road North were still proving more popular.

'As well as finding them around the tree bases, they were also collected from the floor just inches from the litter bin. I'd like to encourage people not to drop cigarette butts, it's frustrating and disheartening to clear them up from around the bins we've provided.'
