WAVENEY MP Bob Blizzard, and East of England Regional Minister Barbara Follett MP will speak at the House of Commons on Thursday to launch the prospectus for companies looking to invest in offshore energy at Lowestoft's new OrbisEnergy Centre.

The event will highlight Lowestoft's position at the forefront of European offshore energy activity. The MPs will be joined by speakers from key regional businesses such as JDR Cables and Airtricity, the developer of the £2b Greater Gabbard offshore wind project.

Mr Blizzard said: “As the most easterly point of Great Britain, Lowestoft is geographically Britain's leading edge. Add to this it's strategic location close to North Sea offshore wind development sites, an established cluster of energy companies and access to world-leading research facilities and Lowestoft can claim it's the leading edge in more ways than one.

“OrbisEnergy will be a crucial part of Lowestoft's climb to become a modern industrial and commercial powerhouse in our region.”

The MP is hosting the reception at the House of Commons at 2.30pm to showcase OrbisEnergy nationally.

Entitled “At the Centre of European Offshore Wind”, the event will offer a chance to Members of Parliament to meet with key industry leaders, academics, regional stakeholders and the pioneer businesses who have made OrbisEnergy a reality.

Mr Blizzard will draw attention to the opportunities now available to companies to move into the OrbisEnergy building.

Lowestoft is already an established centre for energy with over 400 offshore and energy related companies there. Lowestoft offers a unique geographical position - strategically placed to access North Sea offshore wind development sites - with excellent port facilities, a skilled workforce and a high quality lifestyle and natural environment, including the widest sandy beach on the East coast!
