THE owners of an Oulton Broad bar have been given permission to extend their opening hours, despite a wave of opposition from neighbours who already claim to feel 'under siege' from late-night revellers at weekends.

An application by Bridges bar to stay open two hours later on Fridays and Saturday nights - until 2.30am - was met with anger by dozens of residents who said it would increase anti-social behaviour on the streets late at night.

Waveney District Council's licensing premises panel came to a compromise at its meeting on Wednesday (September 16) by granting the bar's owners permission to open until 1.30am.

The panel also agreed to an extension of the opening hours on weekdays by an hour to 12.30am, and on Sundays by an extra half an hour to 11.30pm.

More than 40 residents from Commodore Road and Bridge Road had signed a letter outlining problems caused by drinkers, including verbal abuse from revellers leaving bars late at night.

The owners of the bar, on Bridge Road, were also given the go-ahead to extend their hours to play live music at weekends by an hour to midnight instead of 2am which they applied for, and recorded music by an hour until 1am, an instead of 2am that was asked for.
