A good turnout of club members battled it out as a popular annual tournament was hailed a success.

Oulton Broad Bowls Club hosted the President's Day contest on Sunday, June 3, with president, Diane Bryan, welcoming more than 20 club members and their families and friends.

A pairs tournament was played to EBF rules, with ten teams of randomly-selected pairs competing over two games of six ends. After an excellent buffet lunch, a further two games were played with Ray Goddard and Michael Peak moving into first place as they just beat Nick Pearson and Dave Comley into second.

An afternoon break for tea and a slice of the President's cake followed before a raffle – with prizes donated by members – was held. The winners were presented with the Tony Carpenter Cup, which commemorates a former club member and park keeper who lived in the building now housing the Lowestoft Museum.

A club spokesman said: 'Overall it was an excellent sun filled day of bowling and socialising, enjoyed by all at our friendly, relaxed bowls club.'
