Forty one members of St Mark's Wives Group met in the Church Centre on May 18 when the speaker was Mrs Daphne Howlett who spoke about the world of shells. Collecting shells is a hobby she and her husband have enjoyed for over 40 years. It started when she was a teacher and collected shells for a school project and they now have 9,500 species housed in a caravan in their garden. She brought a sample to show which included sea shells, shells from land snails and shells from fresh water snails and also gave us their Latin names. They both belong to the British Shell Collectors Club and exchange shells with other collectors. Mrs Howlett was thanked by Pat Goodwin. The next meeting is on June 1 when Canon Brian Wiskin will be giving his thoughts on retirement.
