Supporters from the parish raised �239 in the recent sponsored bike ride for the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust, half of which will eventually be refunded to the parish. Mass times for this Sunday are 9am celebrated by Fr Tony Sketch at St Nicholas Church, Morton Road, South Lowestoft and at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Gordon Road, 5pm (first mass Saturday) and 10.30am celebrated by Fr Neville McLement. The mass of commitment for first holy communicants takes place next Sunday, October 18. Parents of schoolchildren are asked to contact Deacon Stephen via the presbytery on 572453 before then if they have not already registered for this preparation course if they and their child wish to make this commitment. Similarly forthcoming candidates for the sacrament of confirmation are also asked to get in touch with Deacon Stephen to register for a confirmation course they can attend. Refreshments are served in the church halls after mass on Sundays. The �25 winners of the last four weeks' Knights of St Columba good causes draws were Franky Sayer, George Slaughter, Rita Garrett and David Pateman. The Lowestoft Council of Knights and their supporters entertained Captain Richard Musgrove, operations manager of the Lowestoft Lifeboat and members of the lifeboat community to a carvery meal and slideshow at the Wherry Hotel on the occasion of their annual gala evening and presented them with a cheque for �500 to assist with the voluntary work of the Lowestoft Lifeboat.
