WHEN John Goldsby emailed a photograph to the Journal, little did he know the impact it was about to have on his life.

Just a week later John, of Kirkley Run, Lowestoft, had been named the winner of the Picture of the Week competition and had a date for Thursday night.

On Friday, March 21, Mr Goldsby's picture of Superprix truck's thundering around Brands Hatch was chosen ahead of numerous other entries to be crowned the week's winning snap.

However, his delight at being picked as the prize-winner would soon be topped when Louise Hunt, of Newsons Meadow, Lowestoft, saw that day's Journal.

The pair had previously met when a friend of John's brought Louise along to play darts for the Marquis of Lorne team a year earlier. And although they had not seen each other for around a year, Louise, a teaching assistant at Elm Tree Middle School, managed to find John's number.

“I was on my way back from Brands Hatch again when I got the text,” said John, who turns 29 today.

“We chattered for a few days and then went out on the Thursday, so the week after I won we went out for the first time.”

Since then the couple have been together for two months and John, who works for ACC Limited, has gone on to win Picture of the Week again with his image of a heron taking the prize for Friday, May 16.

“I just want to say a big thank you for choosing John Goldsby's photo to win Picture of the Week because if I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have got in contact with him again and we wouldn't have got together,” said Louise.
