Pakefield Wives -The first meeting of 2009/2010 was held on September 9, when Tony Brown was the speaker talking about the wildlife of the Isles of Scilly. The islands lie in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 28 miles off the Cornish coast. Out of 100 islands, only five are inhabited, the main one being St Mary's. These can be approached by boat, skybus or helicopter. Because of the position of the islands, they boast an abundance of wildflowers and are a birdwatcher's paradise. Many migrating birds are blown off course and Tony was able to show computer generated photographs of a number of passing birds resting before moving on and also many resident birds.
