For the past four years, Pakefield High School has been part of the Chance to Shine cricket project, which has seen the number of pupils competing significantly increasing.

And this has led to the school in London Road to this year team up with Suffolk Cricket to be one of only six schools in the county to deliver the new Turbo 10 project, which includes a leadership qualification.

Year-nine student Daniel Pitts said: 'I really enjoyed learning about Turbo 10 and I am so pleased I have a qualification in cricket.

'Although I was nervous about leading the other pupils, I am glad that I got involved. This has really boosted my confidence and made me realise that I can actually lead others.'

Throughout National Cricket Week last month, pupils across years seven and eight received some coaching in the sport, which culminated in an exciting series of inter-house competitions led by Elliot Gibbons, from the PE team, and PE apprentice Danny Parker.

Suffolk Cricket's managing director for cricket fixtures, Michael Kay, said: 'I cannot believe the maturity and quality of leadership here at Pakefield. The pupils are so confident and good with the younger children – I am really impressed.'

Jim Keeble, schools liaison officer for cricket, described the events as a true indication of how this project encourages all children to get active and engage with a very fun and engaging sport.

After some keenly fought competition, the Anglo Saxons house from the school were 'delighted' to have been crowned as the 2015 winners.
