Little princes and princesses enjoyed a right royal knees up to celebrate a very special birthday.

Youngsters at Ladybird Day Care in Lowestoft wore fancy dress and held an outdoor tea party in honour of Queen Elizabeth II turning 90 today (Thursday, April 21).

Georgette Vass, one of the day care centre managers, said: “It went really well.

“They were all excited and singing Happy Birthday to the Queen. Children kept shouting out happy birthday. It was really sweet.

“They came dressed up as princes and princesses and looked lovely. The staff wore red, white and blue clothing too.”

The children have been taking part in activities all week to celebrate the royal birthday, including making their own bunting and crowns and making and decorating cakes. They also learned about the role of the Queen and made her a card. The work was part of a project on British values.

Emma Chaston, who is also a manager at the day care centre located within Kirkley Children’s Centre, said: “It has been really exciting. We want to say thank you to the parents and staff for all their hard work, and happy birthday to the Queen.”
