DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a 73-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag on the top floor of the Britten Centre car park around 1.25pm this afternoon.

DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a 73-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag on the top floor of the Britten Centre car park around 1.25pm this afternoon.

The woman had just returned to her car, parked close to the lift, placed her shopping in the boot, got into the vehicle and was about to close the door when the offender approached, stood in the doorway and threatened her, demanding that she hand over her handbag.

The woman was threatened with a metal implement and the man leant across her to grab the bag from the passenger seat. He then fled and the woman made her way to a nearby shop to raise the alarm. She was shaken, but unhurt.

The offender is described as white, possibly in his 20s, of slim/ slight build and possibly around 5ft 7ins tall.

He wore a dark top, jeans and a black peaked cap. Police are asking anyone who was in the car park or who saw anyone matching this description with a handbag to contact Lowestoft CID on 01986 835300.
