People missed out on carnival procession

I WANT to express my concerns about the Lowestoft Carnival Procession, which is run by a voluntary committee raising funds for Lowestoft Hospital. It depends on this money to carry on its good work.

This is a yearly event enjoyed by all and, being a member of a local group that relies on donations, we assume that the authorities should back their volunteers. So the fact that the procession was not allowed to cross the bascule bridge to head north as usual meant many people were unable to see it!

The carnival committee put a lot of hard work into putting on this event for the community and to be stopped way short due to one piece of legislation is disgusting.

What has happened to this country? If you do something for people to enjoy themselves, some odd-bod sitting in an office, rather putting it right, says 'ha ha I will put a stop to this'!!

The carnival has run along the A12 for years, always at the same time of the year, so what's changed? Lowestoft Carnival stops traffic for up to two hours at the most.

Cutting its parade route is bound to affect the carnival; not just the committee, but all the firms that help, the time and effort put into decorating floats and the people that take part, as well as the public who turn out in force to see this popular event on both sides of the town.

To top my frustration ASDA stores have been able to put in a temporary exit onto Belvedere Road and caused bedlam with the traffic, but that's not deemed a problem at all.

I called the shop and it was explained to me that it was just for a couple of days (last week). This exit was not well planned. If you want to turn right out of the store you have to cross two lanes of traffic in the morning and two in the afternoon, and this as already caused at least one minor accident.
