THE annual Service of Remembrance takes place on Sunday >> at Royal Plain, Lowestoft, and the Royal British Legion has put out an invitation for people to attend the event.

A parade from the Town Hall, through the town centre, will be led by the 469 (Lowestoft) Squadron Air Training Corps marching band and followed by the contingent of the Queen's Dragoon Guard Troop Army Cadet Force, the Lowestoft Sea Cadets, St John Ambulance Service and the local Scouts and Guides associations

Waveney Ex-Serviceman's Associations will also be part of the parade and will march on from Royal Plain and join other representatives of the emergency services and local organisations round the memorial.

Brian Round, from the local branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “This is the first time for many years that the Service of Remembrance has been hosted by the local legion branch. Waveney District Council, ex-serviceman's associations and cadet forces have all assisted us in making this possible.

“We hope as many people as possible turn out to create a sense of community pride as we remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice as well as wishing for the safe return for those who are currently serving.”

Rev Duncan McMann will be joined by a host of civic guests including Waveney MP Bob Blizzard, Waveney District Council vice-chairman Simon Tobin and Lowestoft Mayor Malcolm Cherry. The Salvation Army Band will provide music for the service which starts at 11am.

There will be free car parking at nearby car parks from 10am to 1pm at East Point Pavilion and Belvedere Road.

Later in the day the Royal British Legion will be holding an Evening of Remembrance and Songs at St Peter's and St John's Church. The event is open for everyone to attend and starts from 6pm

A further service will take place on Royal Plain on Wednesday as part of the Legion's nationwide two minute silence, at 11am.

There will be prayers at 10.58am; the exhortation and Last Post at 10.59am.

Anyone who would like to be involved in the parade or would like to lay a wreath on behalf of an organisation can contact Brian Round on 01502 732713.
