On October 7 the club held the first print competition of the season. Members started with the open section of two dozen large prints of scenery, trains, buildings, flowers and still life amongst others. Derek Leak commented on the pictures. The club voted for their favourites and the first picture was Eric Bartlett's shot of the train Oliver Cromwell with a superb head of steam. Colin Snowling was in second place with a misty shot of Oulton Broad, Bev Harrison with seashells and Peter Lockyear with a still life of a set table were tied in third place. After the break it was portraits. Trevor Cox provided the comments and explained that nowadays most portraits are candid and often taken outdoors. A number of the pictures came from club outings during the summer. First place went to a new member A Tallents with a portrait of a young girl, second place to Richard Pye for a girl with face painting and third to Peter Eyles for a modern shot of Fran, taken at Southwold. The novice section had only one entrant, most novices have progressed to the main sections. The next meeting is on Wednesday, October 21 and is a joint gallery evening with Yarmouth Photographic Society and will be at Gorleston library at 7.30pm.
