On September 23 the club met for an evening of photographic questions and answers. Members had previously submitted a series of questions about cameras, photo techniques and photo processing and more experienced members had been primed to try to answer the questions. It started with a series of night time shots from Ron Clarke who explained how he took the pictures. Rob Smith then demonstrated what is meant by layers in photo processing and how to how to work with them. Len Hamilton then gave a very clear demonstration of using layers to change the sky in a picture and a second demonstration of how to remove unwanted people in a picture taken in a museum. Bev Harrison talked about how to join a photo sharing group and the benefits of belonging to this on line photo club. After the break Derek Leak showed how to bracket pictures and then showed a series of pictures to demonstrate the effect. He then explained how it was rather less necessary with a digital camera taking raw images. Edwina Beaumont showed the method she uses to takes macro photographs and showed a variety of pictures taken using these methods. The club was delighted to welcome Pam Greystone, an honorary member and good friend of the club on her annual visit to Lowestoft. She gave the club a donation which was very gratefully received and presented the cups for the annual exhibition, including the Greystone Trophy for the best colour print which went to Avery Bailey. In turn she was given a copy of the winning print and an album of photographs taken by club members on the two coach trips for which Pam had provided support during the summer. The next meeting is on Wednesday, October 7. It will be the first round of the print competition. Pictures for the open, the portrait and the novice sections will be judged by the club. The club meets at 7.30pm at Trinity Methodist Church Hall, Park Road, Lowestoft. Anyone with an interest in photography is welcome.
