Police are appealing for witnesses following a burglary and an attempted burglary at two high street business premises.

They are just the latest in a growing list of incidents to have occurred on the High Street in Southwold since January 6.

The most recent burglary took place at Mark's Fish and Chips sometime between 3pm on Friday, January 12 and 9.45 am on Monday, January 15. Entry was forced to the side door of the premises and a safe was stolen.

In addition, at some point between 5pm on Friday, January 12 and 8.30am on Monday, January 15, there was an attempted break-in at Serin Hairdressing Salon. Nothing was reported stolen.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious at the relevant times is encouraged to call Police on 101, quoting reference 2752/18 (Mark's Fish and Chips) or 2809/18 (Serin Hairdressing Salon). Officers have already issued an appeal after the High Street was hit by a spate of burglaries and attempted burglaries between Saturday, January 6 and Monday, January 8.

The locations and details of these earlier incidents are as follows:

• The Black Olive Delicatessen: Sometime overnight between Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7, a window at the rear of the premises was smashed and suspect(s) stole cash from within.

• St Elizabeth Hospice: At some point between 4pm on Sunday, January 7 and 8.25am on Monday, January 8, entry was forced by smashing a rear window and cash was stolen from the premises.

• Observatory the Opticians: Entry was forced to the rear of the premises sometime overnight between Sunday, January 7 and Monday, January 8, and cash was stolen.

• Two Magpies Bakery: Sometime between 7pm on Sunday, January 7 and 5am on Monday, January 8, an attempt to force entry was made at the rear of the premises. Nothing was stolen.

• Sue Ryder Care: Sometime between 4.30pm on Sunday, January 7 and 4pm on Monday, January 8, an attempt to force a door at the rear of the premises was made. Nothing was stolen.

In response to the burglaries, police set about investigating possible links between the incidents and also stepped up overnight patrols in the area.
