Police seized drugs, drugs equipment and cash in raids on six homes in Yarmouth and Gorleston, following on from a similar operation in Norwich earlier this week.

The raids on Wednesday, which followed weeks of intelligence gathering, are being followed up with high visibility patrols to reassure residents and hand out information leaflets.

Dogs trained to detect drugs were deployed in the raids which were carried out by officers from tactical units, CID, and the local safer neighbourhood teams. Amphetamines, cocaine and cannabis were found.

At a home in Ordnance Road, Yarmouth, Charles Roberts was arrested and later charged with possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply amphetamine. He is due to appear at Yarmouth magistrates on April 22.

In Beccles Road, Gorleston, a 38-year-old man and a 29-year-old man were arrested for being concerned in the production of cannabis. Cannabis together with a quantity of unidentified powder was seized and both men have been interviewed and released on police bail pending further forensic investigations.

At a home in Yarmouth Way, Yarmouth, a 37-year-old man was arrested for being concerned in the supply of cocaine. He has also been interviewed and released on police bail pending further forensic investigations.

Insp Steve Davies, who led the operation in Norwich and Yarmouth, said: 'These successful and carefully pre-planned operations are good examples of how the constabulary is taking a firm stance against drug dealers.'

Chief Supt Tony Cherington, head of the county delivery unit, said: 'We remain committed to tackling drug crime and disrupting the drug supply in the county.

'We are determined to drive these criminals out of communities and bring them to justice. This type of crime causes great misery for local communities and it is vital that criminals realise we are constantly working to tackle drug crime.'

Anyone who suspects there is drug activity in their community should contact Norfolk Constabulary on 0845 4564567 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
