The cries of a sex assault victim alerted two Good Samaritans who came to her aid.

Great Yarmouth police yesterday cordoned off an area of the town's Beaconsfield Road recreation ground to search for forensic clues.

The 31-year-old victim had been walking from the nearby Golfers Arms pub with a male friend who had said goodbye to her before she entered the recreation ground on her own.

The attack by two men happened at about 1.20am yesterday in an area of the park next to Midland Close.

The men had approached her and started a conversation before pulling her to the ground and sexually assaulting her. They also stole her handbag and mobile phone.

A female passer-by heard the commotion and went to the victim's aid and she was joined by a man who chased the attackers but lost sight of them as they ran off in the direction of Beaconsfield Road football pitches.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area around the time stated or from anyone with information about the suspects.
