INVESTIGATIONS into the cause of a fatal crash on the A145 at Henham, which led to the deaths of two men and left the driver with serious injuries, were continuing this week.

INVESTIGATIONS into the cause of a fatal crash on the A145 at Henham, which led to the deaths of two men and left the driver with serious injuries, were continuing this week.

28-year-old Samuel Fordham of Saxmundham, and 20-year-old Darren Welton from Kelsale, died after a car in which they were passengers careered off the road and collided with a tree at Henham.

A police spokesperson yesterday told The Journal there were “ongoing enquiries” in to “what has caused the collision. Officers are seeking information after the fatal road traffic accident on Wednesday morning.

They were contacted just after 7am to reports that a car was off the road and in a field near Sotherton crossroads.

“It appears a blue Nissan Almera, which the two men were passengers in, left the road and collided with a tree,” a police spokesperson told The Journal.

Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene and found the vehicle with three occupants. Mr Fordham, the front seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Welton, a passenger in the back seat, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston where he died just after 1pm on Wednesday.

The driver of the vehicle - a 24-year-old man - remains at Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition.

The road was closed with traffic being diverted via Halesworth on the B1123 and B1124 until just after noon.

“Police need to speak to anyone who was driving in the area at the time, regardless of whether they saw the collision or not,” the spokesperson added. “If you were driving along the A145 or were near Sotherton crossroads around 7am this morning please get in touch.”

Information about the crash should be directed to Halesworth Roads Policing Unit on 01986 835300.
