A WARNING has been issued by police urging locals to ignore a scam email, which tries to get people to part with cash by saying someone has been hired to kill you.

Police have received around half-a-dozen calls on Tuesday morning from people across the county who have been sent the scam emails.

On each occasion the victim has received an email in which the sender says he has been paid to kill him.

The email goes on to say a “friend” wants him dead, that he is not to contact the police and makes threats about his family.

The email then goes onto say that he can pay to have his life spared and requests a large sum of cash.

Police investigated a similar email sent to an individual last year and a number of similar scam emails have been reported nationwide. The email is believed to have originated in Nigeria.

Officers advise that you do not reply to the email in any way.
