POLICE are urging residents to check the security of outbuildings such as sheds and garages after several burglaries recently.

Someone broke into a garage at the back of a home in Oulton Road between 10pm on Monday <21> and 10.45am on Tuesday <22> March and stole fishing equipment and two power drills. The items were found hidden in the grounds of St Margarets Church and recovered.

Frozen food and drink items including bottles of beer, wine and champagne were stolen after someone gained entry to a shed in the back garden of a home at Rumburgh Road between 1am and 11am on Saturday <19>. A pram was also stolen and possibly used to move the items, with the pram later found in Spashett Road.

A man described as white, in his 20s, around 6ft tall, with brown hair, wearing a jumper, brown trousers, hat and rigger boots was spotted inside a shed in the back garden of a home in Yarmouth Road about 5.15am on Sunday <20>. A resident at the property challenged him and there was a brief scuffle before he fled, with nothing stolen.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents should telephone Lowestoft police on 01986 835300.

'Police are urging residents to lock up outbuildings and secure any valuables kept inside them,' a police spokesman said. 'Fitting an inexpensive shed alarm can alert you – and disturb the intruder – should anyone try to get in.'
