A DRUNKEN brawl cost an Oulton Broad man his job, just three days after he had started work at a holiday park in south Wales.

Christopher Mark Smith, 21, of Cedar Drive, had just joined the workforce as the pool manager at Carmarthen Bay caravan park when he got into an argument with a colleague and attacked him, a court was told.

As well as losing his job, Smith was ordered to pay 450 in fines, compensation and costs after admitting two charges of assault.

Prosecuting, Ellie Morgan told Camarthen Magistrates Court that the incident happened on March 21 when Brian Roberts, the park's leisure manager, was celebrating a birthday with a party at his chalet.

Smith became involved in a row with Mr Roberts and was escorted from the caravan by Michael Burley, the site's security manager, who was also present. Smith's friends eventually took him back to their caravan.

Ten minutes later, Mr Roberts escorted two female guests back to their caravan next to Smith's. Mr Burley followed him because he was concerned for his safety.

'They heard lots of shouting and insults directed from inside Smith's caravan. They went over and asked them to keep things down, sleep it off and discuss the problem in the morning,' Ms Morgan told the court.

But Smith then ran up to Mr Roberts and squeezed his throat and shouted insults, the court heard.

Mr Burley intervened and placed arms around Mr Roberts, trying to pull him away.

As they walked away, Smith struck Mr Burley on the left side of his nose and headbutted Mr Roberts.

The police were called and Smith was arrested.

Smith pleaded guilty last week to two charges of assault by beating and ordered to pay a 300 fine, compensation of 50 each to Mr Roberts and Mr Burley, 85 costs and a 15 victim surcharge.
