As part of the celebration of the centenary of the end of the First World War, one group of dedicated volunteers are aiming to make 3,000 knitted poppies to commemorate the anniversary.
The Poppies By The Sea project, based in Lowestoft, is hoping to make the thousands of poppies to place in Belle Vue Park where the most easterly war memorial stands.
Supported by Lowestoft Town Council, who approved a £10,000 budget for a memorial garden in the park, the project will see the poppies placed in the garden.
A spokesman for Lowestoft Town Council said: “The staff team here are having a competition to see who can knit the best one and bearing in mind most of them cannot knit it will be fun!”
Some of the poppies will be sold as part of a fundraising effort for the Royal British Legion and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. More details can be found on the group’s Facebook page.
