POWERBOATING could roar once more offshore at Lowestoft this summer.

A meeting has been held this week between senior officials from the Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championships - which this year will replace the Honda F4 championships that have graced the town in recent years - Waveney District Council and other local partners.

With an announcement imminent from the P1 championship team, as to which destinations will be chosen this campaign, the council remained 'hopeful' this week that Lowestoft will be a popular choice.

'There will be a different race series this year with the P1 championships competing in 150hp and 300hp classes,' Asa Morrison, Waveney District Council's principal service manager for culture, tourism and sport, said.

'We had negotiations with them this week and they are likely to make an announcement soon, after visiting other destinations around the UK as well.

'From the council's perspective the meeting went very well and we remain hopeful that there will be good news for Lowestoft very soon,' he added.
