I AM delighted that Ann Jillings (June 5) feels that Kirkley High School has proved to be a good choice for her son as it was for our son a few years ago.

Our daughter has now completed year 11 and is sitting her GCSE exams.

As parents we have been extremely disappointed with her educational experience over the past three years. We have discussed the issues on numerous occasions with various members of the teaching staff but we believe that she will not achieve the grades in August that she should have done.

I have sympathy for the head teacher who has inherited a school with a large debt and now entering special measures.

However, I feel very strongly that Kirkley High has failed our daughter and probably many other students currently at the school. The recent poor Ofsted report and the instigation of special measures is not really surprising at all bearing in mind the poor management we have encountered. There are some subject areas in the school with excellent teachers, providing good education who care about their students but there are other subject areas that are woefully inadequate.

I am optimistic that Mr Pickard will turn things around and get Kirkley High back on track. In the meantime it is children's futures at stake.

Our daughter has worked hard in her time at Kirkley High. Her achievements in August will be despite Kirkley High School not because of it.
