Schools across Lowestoft have raised thousands of pounds completing their very own Race for Life events.

Hundreds of children, staff and family members at three schools in the town took up the challenge in supporting Cancer Research UK's Race for Life.

Almost 500 children, aged between four and 11, took part in their own Race for Life at Woods Loke Primary School on June 8.

Jo Pawlett, admin officer at the school in Butley Drive, Oulton Broad, said it was 'a lovely event'.

With the school council and teacher Heather Stoddart overseeing the event, Mrs Pawlett added: 'So far, as a school, we have raised £1,910 for the Race for Life charity which is a fantastic total, with more monies coming in.

'To have raised nearly £2,000 is incredible.'

With staff praising all pupils who took part in the Race for Life, youngsters wore their PE kit as they made their way around the school field.

Mrs Pawlett said: 'The weather was perfect and the whole school took part. The nursery to year two pupils were all running around the track, with the years three to six pupils running a set course on the field.

'The school council worked really hard on the event, sending out letters beforehand and encouraging everyone on the day.'
