HEALTH chiefs in Suffolk spoke of their delight yesterday (Monday) after hitting their target for the number of residents who have quit smoking.
The Suffolk Stop Smoking Service reported that 3,870 people in the county kicked the habit in 2008/09 compared to the 3,815 target set by the Strategic Health Authority.
Lynda Bradford, health improvement manager at NHS Suffolk said: 'This year the targets have been tough, as we find that it's the harder-to-reach smokers that we're now trying to help give up - so this result is even better news.'
'We're really pleased that people in Suffolk are using the service to kick the habit - and there's a range of help on offer, from nicotine replacement therapy to drug treatments, depending on what will work best for the individual.'
