FIREFIGHTERS tackled a large grass fire near a British Rail compound, which set light to nearby railway sleepers.
Fifty square metres of grass caught fire at 2.40pm yesterday (Thursday) in a yard at the building in Commercial Road before flames spread to the sleepers.
A crew from Lowestoft South fire station attended the scene and managed to get the flames under control by 3pm using two hose reel jets.
