A statement from Wessex Foods says: 'Irish Food Processors (IFP) and executives of Wessex Foods have made strident efforts to procure manufacturing capacity in the short term in the Lowestoft area, but at this time no viable alternative has materialised.
'IFP are still in the process of assessing all options and no decisions have been taken on the future of the Lowestoft site destroyed in the recent fire.
'Wessex employees have attended briefing meetings in Lowestoft to update them on the current situation at Wessex Foods and have entered into a statutory 90 day consultation period.'
On Sunday, July 11 smoke could be seen for miles from the plant on the South Lowestoft industrial estate.
