Residents are in with a chance of obtaining the latest in smart technology as police look to crack down on burglary.

Suffolk Constabulary has once again joined forces with home security specialists, Ring, whose video doorbell cameras stream live footage straight to owners' smartphones.

The company donated 50 cameras to the force in February and has now provided an additional 200 devices in an attempt to catch more criminals in the act. In the past year, two prolific burglars have been caught and convicted in Suffolk thanks to footage obtained through the video doorbells.

And now, with smart technology increasingly at the police's disposal, residents from across the county are invited to register their interest in getting their hands on the latest security innovation.

Suffolk police and crime commissioner, Tim Passmore, said: 'This is a great initiative. Anything that improves the peace of mind of victims of burglary is really welcome.

'It's excellent news that Ring has donated these doorbell cameras. I'm sure they will help residents feel safer and support the police in their mission to catch criminals, get them prosecuted and brought to justice.'

As homeowners are given the opportunity to put forward their case, detective superintendent and head of investigations, Andy Smith, added: 'We will be accepting expressions of interest from members of the community that feel they, or someone they know, would benefit from being a recipient of a device.

'I would like to remind the community that burglary remains a priority for the force and, by installing even more cameras, we are actively working to increase the number of offenders convicted for this type of crime.'

Those to already benefit from the installation of a Ring doorbell have also highlighted their increased sense of security.

One resident said: 'It's fantastic to have this security measure in place as it allows me to see outside of my home and as far as my car on the street.

'As a previous victim of burglary, I believe this initiative is fantastic and now I've been using the technology for some time, I don't know what I would do without it.'
