I AM writing to clarify the report in The Journal (May 30) entitled “Health service complaints rise.”

At the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Primary Care Trust May board meeting the public and press were given a detailed, open and transparent report outlining not only those complaints in the PCT area but also data comparing PCT rates with the rest of the east of England.

The report gave a literal interpretation which lacked the context of complaints across the east of England.

The east of England figures clearly show that the Great Yarmouth and Waveney PCT has the lowest number of complaints, even when allowance is made for population size in each area.

The total for the period January to March this year is 43. Some of the other PCT areas include Cambridgeshire 510, Norfolk 502, Suffolk 590, West Essex 230, North East Essex 419, Mid Essex 245, South West Essex 179.

Of course as with all other NHS Trusts Great Yarmouth and Waveney PCT welcomes any complaint in order that this can be used to improve the service we offer to the local community.

The board believes that every complaint is an opportunity to improve our services.
