PEOPLE living in part of Carlton Colville are uniting in anger after a planning application was lodged to build 10 homes on a green space of less than an acre.

Residents of Beccles Road and Chapel Road were shocked to discover that Persimmon Homes was proposing to build on the piece of land - known as the Green Triangle - after previously seeing two applications withdrawn by the developer.

As part of phase six of its Carlton Park residential scheme, Persimmon wants to build 10 homes on the land, ranging from two to four bedrooms, with 14 car park spaces.

In 2005, the company withdrew an application for 14 homes, but, with outline planning consent already secured, it has returned with another application to Waveney District Council.

Martin Davidson, land director for Persimmon, said: 'We are conscious that the site has previously been refused but

hope our designs and arrangements have overcome these on this occasion.'

However, the plans have alarmed local people, who believe it will cause more parking, sewage and traffic problems in the Chapel Road cul-de-sac and rob the area of another area of green space.

Denise Carver, of Beccles Road, said: 'One of their aims is to build a focal point for coming into Carlton Colville, but how on earth are more homes a focal point?

'Would you like your children/grandchildren living on what has become a racing rack - with Beccles Road and the Carlton bypass forming two sides of the triangle?'

And Ed Brighty, of Chapel Road, said: 'We need some green area. This will be an accident waiting to happen.'

Mrs Carver has written to her neighbours asking them to make their objections known and says she has been encouraged by the feedback she has received.

Any comments about the planning application must be made by Monday, November 16, with a target determination date of January 20.

Waveney council declined to comment ahead of its development control committee meeting.
