Kessingland residents say they have been plagued by people driving through areas like London Road well in excess of the 30mph speed limit.

Inconsiderate parking and motorists driving along the pavements is also an issue - in turn putting pedestrians in danger.

Kessingland Parish Council member Brian Kite said: “It’s getting worse - it’s not getting better.

“We also have mirrors knocked off and damage to cars.

“People have given up reporting incidents because the police say there’s no evidence and they can’t do anything for us.”

However, residents have now taken it upon themselves to take action.

Speed activation signs - which warn motorists with a flashing light whether they are travelling over the speed limit - are due to be installed shortly and the village has also received application forms to set up a speed watch scheme.

Once residents have been trained, they will be able to use a speed gun to register how fast vehicles are going so police can send warning letters to motorists.

Suffolk County Council has sent a road inspection officer to the village to look at traffic calming measures and a public meeting was also held recently on the issue, with more than 50 residents in attendance to air their views.

Asked what his plea would be to motorists who drive through the village, Mr Kite said: “Please drive more considerately for other road users, particularly bearing in mind it’s a busy road.”
